Indorse Biometric Signature is an application used on the Web or
in a standalone system to provide a way to authenticate the
identity of the biometric hand written signature of a user
captured by WACOM digitized pen and a pad with 1024 pressure
levels.
The Problem:
When a handwritten signature is enrolled on a paper only the
static feature of the signature that appears on the paper can be
verified with another signature causing forgery of signature to
be easy. By doing this they ignored a lot of dynamic features
(speed of strokes, time between points and pressure level
applied to the pen) that can make a big difference to the
comparison and makes the signature forgery very hard.
A lot of legal, financial and governmental transactions require
signatures as a way to express the intent and the approval of
these transactions. Electronic capturing and verification of
signatures was needed when performing these transactions online.
There were a lot of attempts by the IT industry to provide
electronic biometric signature capturing and verification but
there were faced with problems in false acceptance rate (FAR)
which is the rate of accepting signatures that should be
rejected and in false rejection rate (FRR) which is the rate of
rejecting signatures that should be accepted in the verification
of these signatures. Other IT industry solutions ignored to
secure the capturing of the Biometric signature data when it is
used on web browsers which allowed for the compromising of this
sensitive data.
The Solution:
Indorse Biometric Signature application can be used on the
web or in a standalone system running on a multi platform to
provide an electronic biometric signature capturing and
verification. The application compares the dynamic features of
the signature and the static features (x, y and Z) of the
signature with three Biometric Signatures data captured as a
reference signatures.
Microsoft Ink was used by the application in the calculation of
the dynamic and the static data. MS ink uses vector
representation of static data which helped in reducing the FAR
and the FRR in the application static features comparison. Also
the application made sure when enrolling the three references
Biometric signatures that they are homogeneous which made the
comparison more accurate. The application compares the reference
signature that has the most common feature with the feature of
signature to reduce the FAR and the FRR effectively.
The Application uses Indorse Input application which secures the
capturing of the biometric data on the web browser and assures
that the sensitive data is protected.
